Description

Pluto uses an ETX Computer-on-Module to enable product life extension for PC/104-Plus applications. ETX is the only COM form factor that provides both ISA and PCI buses, which can directly drive the PC/104-Plus ISA and PCI connectors to enable the installation of both PC/104 and PC/104-Plus add-on modules. The two-board construction (COM + carrier board) allows for high density of I/O and connectors in a small size, only slightly larger than a typical PC/104 SBC with right angle pin headers.

The standard product configuration uses an E3845 (Bay Trail) CPU with 15-year lifecycle. A legacy configuration with N270 CPU is also available. An SODIMM socket accepts up to 8GB RAM. Legacy I/O connectors support IDE, parallel port, floppy drive, PS/2, and CompactFlash devices to extend the lifetime of existing embedded PC designs with minimal redesign effort or impact on other parts of the system.

The bottom side heat spreader / mounting plate provides convenient mounting plus effective heat dissipation directly to the system enclosure while also supporting the full industrial operating temperature range of -40 to +85C.

Pluto is an ideal solution for the following scenarios:

• Extending the lifecycle of an existing older embedded system with legacy I/O where an extensive redesign effort is undesirable
• Developing a compact x86-based system where long life, small size, and PC/104-Plus I/O expansion are needed

System Block Diagram

Pluto is a 2-board assembly. The bottom board is the COM containing the CPU and core I/O circuitry. The upper board contains the peripheral I/O circuitry, power supply, and I/O connectors. Combine the two block diagrams together at the X1-X4 connectors to produce the complete system block diagram.

Most I/O is provided by the connectors on the carrier board. The high speed SATA ports are accessed using standard right-angle SATA connectors mounted on the edge of the COM.
